As readers of this blog may have guessed, it’s been a very busy year at the Hexberg house and I figured it was time for an update on the goings-on around here. Jared finished school and started working full-time at a job that he enjoys and is really good at. I continue to enjoy my job, although I could do without the commute.
Thor is in preschool each weekday morning and Winnie goes with him twice a week. I hear few details from either of them, but they are definitely picking up skills. Thor can sound out basic words now and is very proud of being able to spell and write some words, too. He is a bundle of energy at home, as evidenced by two injuries/ER trips this year. As documented here, one resulted in swelling and bruising to his face; the more recent incident ended in four staples to his scalp which he is enjoying showing off to family and friends. He is a very sweet kid who recently told me about his plans to give Santa a Christmas gift.
Winnie is a handful in her own way. She is a smart as a whip and gets into all kinds of devious trouble; we never know where she will strike next. She loves drawing circles and I have found her trademark “circle art” all over the house for months now -- on the walls, on a pillowcase, and most recently on our wood floors. Amusingly, she tries to blame these creations on Rocky. She loves to “help” with various tasks above her pay grade -- doing laundry, washing dishes, feeding the dogs. The outcome is inevitably quite messy but she’s very proud of her contributions. We have decided not to even bother putting Christmas presents under the tree this year because Winnie can’t handle it. She stabbed a pencil repeatedly into an Amazon package that came to the house because she simply couldn’t leave it alone. Luckily it was a sturdy item.
Rocky, our resident chunky monkey, can go from 0 to 60 in the blink of an eye. He is mostly quite content and laid back, and he can entertain himself for the most part. However, if you cross him he has a surprisingly quick temper for such a little guy. When he gets mad, he immediately casts about for something to throw or destroy. Objects of his wrath have included paperwork (torn or crumpled up in a fit of rage), canned goods (thrown across the kitchen when he was sulking) and kitchen stools (knocked over repeatedly and noisily in a show of defiance). We’ve taken to calling him The Hulk during these mini-meltdowns. On the other hand, he is the most cuddly and affectionate of our kids, and both Jared and I get lots of daily snuggles from him.
That’s the Hexberg house in a nutshell these days – teetering on the edge of chaos most of the time, but a lot of fun.

There's a big part of me that's hoping to get a glimpse of "the hulk" when you come to visit. Neither Justin or I can imagine him hurling canned goods across the room, but it sounds hilarious.
My little guy bangs his head on the floor in frustration! Maybe they should be friends :)
