We had an interesting trip to Yellowstone last week. It involved a lot of time in the car, both coming/going and driving around in the park. As is to be expected, the kids bugged each other from time to time. Winnie has taken up growling at Thor when she’s angry at him, which is hilarious, but it drives him crazy. He threatened to smash her pacifier to pieces by stomping on it. She seemed unperturbed by this although Jared and I were a little disturbed at the violent overtones.
Winnie saw what seemed like every public restroom in the park, and commented on the smells and relative attractiveness of each one. She also took to reporting her observations to Jared. “Daddy, it was really smelly in there. That was a weird bathroom.” Thor picked up on this and when he tagged along to one of the nicer women’s restroom with me and Winnie (with a lemonade in hand, no less) he thoughtfully sipped while waiting for us, loudly commenting the whole time about how “the girls’ bathroom smells really nice. It smells really good in here, Mom!”
Of passing interest were the wildlife and geological wonders. The kids did enjoy collecting sticks and bird feathers and subsequently fighting over them. We’ll probably go back ourselves before too long, but wait until the kids are tad bigger to make a return trip as a family.
